Biking

Enjoy exciting activities in Bonaire during your stay! Though Mountain biking is often thought of in heavily forested areas, Bonaire’s island settings have begun to promote it as a spectacular way to navigate the area while glimpsing the natural beauty of your surroundings and getting a workout to boot. The areas 21-speed TREK or 21-speed Giant bikes, specially outfitted for off road exploring, are available for rental in many stores in the area. Through these companies, there are a variety of available tours through the outback following hundreds of miles of paths that crisscross over Bonaire and one of its biggest attractions, Slagbaai National Park. Many of the islands tours follow along the coastline and make stops allowing time for picnicking and a swim.

The area’s trails are open to anyone and can pass through many of the islands attractions, one of which, the village of Rincon, is the oldest settlement on Bonaire. If you’re interested in some of the islands natural wildlife, you can bike to the landlocked salt lake Gotomeer, where you are bound to run into a few of Bonaire's famous pink flamingos. For the more advanced riders there is the Lagun-Cai Trail. This path is a loop that runs through some of Bonaires rural areas and then along the east coast and Cai in Lac Bay. The trail is about 35km (21.5 miles) long and follows a flat dirt road for a majority of the trip. For riders who are more inclined to a shorter trail, the Seru Largu trail provides a short circuit that runs through a local part of Bonaire where you can get a feeling for the area before ascending to a viewpoint where you can look at the ocean from above. This trail is 12 km (7.5 miles) and is over a dirt road for most of the trail.
