Stay Active During Your Bonaire Vacation

Enjoy exciting activities in Bonaire during your stay! Though mountain biking is often thought of as an activity for heavily forested areas, it can also be done in beach settings.

Bonaire has many biking trails open to everyone! Get more out of your Bonaire vacation on a ride through some of the island’s attractions—such as the village of Rincon, the oldest settlement on Bonaire. If you’re interested in the island’s natural wildlife, you can also bike to the landlocked salt lake Gotomeer, where you’re bound to run into a few of the island’s famous pink flamingos.

For more advanced riders, there’s also the Lagun-Cai Trail. This path loops through some of Bonaire’s rural areas before following the east coast Lac Bay. The trail is about 35km (21.5 miles) long, and follows a flat dirt road for most of the trip. For riders who are more inclined to a shorter trail, the Seru Largu trail provides a short circuit through a local’s section of Bonaire. After getting a feeling here, you can ascend to a viewpoint that shows the ocean from above. This trail is 12km (7.5 miles) and travels a dirt road for the majority of its length.

21-speed TREK or Giant bikes, specially outfitted for off-road exploring, are available for rental in many local stores. Through these companies, you can also find a variety of tours through the outback, following hundreds of miles that crisscross Bonaire and one of its biggest attractions, Slagbaai National Park. Many of the island’s tours follow the coastline and make stops for picnicking and a swim.
